Part-time 2 hours ago Full Job Description Job Description This position serves as Recreation Specialist in the Recreation & Community Services Department and performs a variety of duties to plan and implement recreational based play and educational components for the Lil Oak Preschool Program.
The program will also introduce children to numbers, letters, shapes, and days of the week.
Program will also emphasize sharing, respect, and understanding.
Additional areas may include:
special events, day camp, and volunteer programs.
Essential Job Functions Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Coordinator, Recreation Specialist will be required to perform the following essential job functions:
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate child centered activities and educational components for the Lil Oak Preschool Program for children ages 3-4.

Establish and maintain positive communication using collaborative methods to problem solve and interact with families, children, and staff.
Supervise, interact, and play with children during assigned times of responsibilities.
Assist with the set up of toys and materials so that they are accessible to children.
Follow established plans to meet the needs of the individual children with concerns for interests, disabilities, special talents, cultural background, and individual styles.
Maintain a safe, orderly, clean and healthy play environment, including administering first aid and handling emergencies.
Provide general housekeeping tasks such as sweeping and picking up toys and materials used in projects.
Participate regularly in staff meetings, in-service programs, and workshops.
Ability to implement circle time activities, story-time, playground activities, art, music, stories, songs and games.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Prefer individual having experience working with children of various age groups.
Prefer a dynamic personality with the ability to motivate staff and children, and a basic knowledge of child development.
Demonstrate empathy, friendliness, patience and responsibility.
Knowledge of basic preschool techniques.
Activities to entertain children including songs, arts and crafts, toys, games, story-time, etc.
Knowledge of basic early childhood education components, ABC's, letters, numbers, shapes, colors and days of the week.
Knowledge of, and ability to, perform basic first aid.
Ability to supervise part-time staff and volunteers.
Creativity and organization skills to implement special events and programs.
Desirable Experience and Training - Recent successful experience with children in a preschool setting.
Knowledge of preschool programs and services.
A valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required.
First Aid and AED Certification for adult and youth is a requirement.
Validation of certification is required upon four weeks of hiring.
Physical Requirements May be required to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
May be required to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to attend to children's needs and to provide learning activities.
